For this article, we’d like to focus on a card game that is one of the oldest and more popular games around the world. It’s mostly played in French and Italian-speaking parts of the world but is also reasonably well known all over the globe. By using the information available in guides and blog sites like Casinoguru and also by consulting with pro players, we prepared an article that will give some general tips on learning how to play Baccarat online. Let’s begin!
What is Baccarat online?
Baccarat is a card game that has a long and illustrious history. It rose to prominence in the Renaissance and is still played to this day. During that time, the rules have changed quite a bit. The Baccarat people play today involve player or players and the dealer who represents the house as well as the banker (also played by the house).
Even when you compare it against other card games, Baccarat is still quite easy to learn. With only a few minutes, you can become a knowledgeable player who only has a small disadvantage against the house.
Baccarat online – how to play?
To begin with, you have to know and remember that there isn’t just one single game of Baccarat. Instead, players have quite a few different game variants to choose from. It depends on the casino, but at least 2-3 versions should be available. Depending on your budget and/or preference, choose the most appealing variant.
Once you’re seated at the table, time to place your bet (considering you know the rules already).
During the game, you place your bet on the player or the banker. The dealer deals out two face-up cards to the player and the dealer. The goal is to get as close to nine, as possible. When you bet on the player and win, you get a double reward, whilst if you win when betting on the banker, you get winnings, equaling 1.95 of your bet.
Cards 2 to 9 have the same value as their number. Jacks, Queens, and Kings are equal to 0 and an Ace equals 1. If your two cards add up to more than 9 in total, you need to drop the first digit. For example, if you get 8 and 8, you’d have 16. Hence, lose the first digit “1” and you have 6 remaining which is your point total. Players also receive a 3rd card if their point total is less than 5.
You can also bet on a tie. This way, your payout is 8 to 1.
Understanding the edge and bets
Once the bet ends and if you won, the player in Baccarat is able to double their bet, repeating the previous bet, or taking the winnings.
If you bet on the player, the house edge is around 1.3% (or 1.24% if you play with a 6-deck).
For the banker bet, the house edge is 1.01% or 1.06% if you play with a 6-deck.
And if you choose a tie, the house edge is around 15%. You can also bet on banker or player pairs. Each of those has an 11% house advantage.
